Health Physicist

A GS-12, Health Physicist, provides technical guidance and technical support at assigned facilities in support of radiation protection programs. A GS-13, Health Physicist, provides expert radiological technical guidance/support and oversight at assigned facilities, and managing technical programs and technical projects or tasks in support of radiation protection programs.Duties of the Health Physicist:
Evaluates established and proposed standards, bases, rules, guides, and codes for adequacy and applicability in the areas of health physics and radiation safety. Provides technical recommendations to the assigned organization and technical program managers concerning health physics activities in all phases of personnel exposure and radiological protection as applied to metals fabrication, chemical separation, waste management, environmental restoration, and various Research & Development (R&D) programs. Identifies preventive measures for handling of issues, based on the data obtained from operations monitoring or from evaluation of test results. Identifies and recommends resolution of non-conforming or questionable technical issues and trends. Evaluates risks and provides input to the development and evaluation of the health physics and radiation safety aspects of other DOE programs. Prepares special health physics technical and appraisal reports concerning allegations of possible damage from radiation. Assists in the coordination of the implementation of new or revised codes, regulations, or standards. Reviews and analyzes safety analysis reports to ensure adequacy of scope and depth of radiation safety and evaluates them for conformance to DOE policy and guidelines. Prepares reports and special studies, and participates in technical lectures, briefings, and formal and informal presentations at DOE-wide and professional association conferences and meetings (e.g., Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board) to obtain and share information concerning health physics and radiation safety. A. Degree:
natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. or B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must meet the specialized experience as identified below.Specialized Experience requirements is as follows:
GS-12:

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience for this position is defined as providing expert radiological technical guidance/support and oversight at assigned facilities, and managing technical programs and technical projects or tasks in support of radiation protection programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
